Gary Wittman

racecar at PIR

I am an amateur racer with SCCA (Sports Car Club of America). I think it is the largest racing organization in the world. I spend a lot of my spare time on my race car. Mostly preparing it for the next race or finding new ways to make it faster. Then I run anywhere from 5 to 9 races each year depending on what I am trying to achieve that year. Fortunately Connie is understanding with my racing desire. She doesn't really like the racing part, it scares her. She does come to some of my races, to support me as much as she can. I have a partner who is a German machinist. That is most helpful when we need special parts made. He also does the crew work. This type of racing would be almost impossible without a crew. The car, with my driving skills, is the fastest G Production car on the west coast. I am working on a National Title but my good luck seems to turn to bad luck when I go to the National Runoffs in Ohio. I did finish in the top ten in "99", but it should have been a top five. I plan to race at Heartland Park in Topeka in September. I will be racing against a national champion there. It is his home track and I know I will have a tough time beating him. I was able to out run him in Phoenix in "98", but it was close and I am familiar with that track. Gary
(note added - Gary got first place at the race in Heartland Park)
