GHS Faculty - continued
I have only a few good memories of teachers because it was hard for me to think fondly of teachers when I disliked school so much. I know some of my teachers were frustrated that they couldn't get me to take my classes seriously or put out more effort.
I remember Mr. Cole telling me over and over that I wasn't living up to my potential and Mr. Carter forcing me to take college prep classes when I just knew I was never going to college.
But my biggest problem was Miss Ruth trying to turn this tomboy into in a 'proper lady'. I see now that I must have tried her patience but at the time I thought she wanted to keep me off the "A" honor roll because she didn't like me. I disliked having to kneel on the floor so she could see if my skirt was long enough and having 5% deducted from my grade for taking off my shoes at a school dance. I would have been much happier barefooted and in jeans anyway!
Does anyone remember the time she showed us a film on "growing up" and then left us alone to write questions for her? Then someone - who shall remain nameless - thought up some really "interesting" questions. At the next class, where she was supposed to answer the questions, she didn't mention them and we started making aprons instead.
Just in case some of my former teachers read this - I may be a late-bloomer but I do eventually do what I should. I started college at the age of 52 and got an associates degree in 2002 and bachelors degree in 2004, with a 4.0 GPA! (But I am still happier barefooted and in jeans ;-)
The four teachers on the top row were our class sponsors. | |||
