From LP’s to CD’s

        Garnett High School Class of ’65

               Forty-Year Reunion

Saturday, May 28, 5:30 – 11:30 pm at the VFW (north of the South Lake)

There will be a catered dinner at 6:30 pm followed by talking, music, dancing, talking, drinking, photos, talking,

introductions, talking, etc. Hopefully that will please all those who said that visiting with other class members

is the most important part of a reunion ;-)

Other Reunion Activities

Friday, May 27, 6 pm: dinner at the Dairy Queen (on Hwy 59, just south of the old DQ)

We can go some place else after dinner if there is enough interest.

Saturday, May 28, 9:30 am – 1:30 pm: picnic at The Depot (7th and Main)

Those who want to can walk to the South Lake and back on the Rail Trail before the potluck picnic at noon.

Bring a covered dish (or deli-food), tableware and lawn chairs – and maybe an extra chair for those who are

flying or traveling a long distance.

Cups, napkins, drinks and ice will be provided.

There is a separate picnic invitation enclosed to give to friends and family members.

Saturday, May 28, 2 pm - 4 pm: tour of the old high school (meet by the gym)

This is for those who missed it at the last reunion or who wanted more time.

Sunday, May 29, 9 am - 11 am: brunch at Maloan's (northwest corner of 4th and Oak)

 We will be in the upstairs room and the class of ’41 will be downstairs.

Monday, May 30: Avenue of Flags at the Garnett Cemetery

The time and meeting place will be announced at the reunion.

It would be wonderful if everyone could attend our class reunion because we are going to have

a REALLY great time. However, if you cannot attend PLEASE send a letter or email telling what

you are doing now - and enclose a recent photo.

If you have questions about the trail walk and picnic contact Terry Cain at 913-909-1323

If you have questions about any of the other events contact Denny Davis at 316-942-9293

or email denny65ghs@hotmail.com

There are more details on the other side about some activities.

The Return Form needs to be sent back by MAY 7

Reunion Details

Our class also has a Yahoo Group.  Since it is private and unlisted you need an invitation to join.

Email denny65ghs@hotmail.com for more information.

===========================================================================

Snacks and Desserts – If you want to bring snacks or desserts to have after the catered dinner that is fine.

Plates, napkins, spoons and forks will be provided.

===========================================================================

Drinks – We cannot bring pop, beer or other drinks to the VFW (except the ice tea provided with dinner).

A bartender will be there from 7 pm to 11 pm to sell pop, beer, bottled water, etc. You can BYOB and buy setups.

If you have a particular kind of beer, pop, bottled water or wine cooler that you like, list it on the back of the

return form and the bartender will TRY to get it.

I think there is a coffee maker at the VFW that we can use. If someone who has to have coffee would volunteer

to bring it and make it please indicate that on the back of the Return Form.

===========================================================================

CD Player – It was decided at the last reunion not to have a band or DJ this time. However, many people still

want to dance or have background music. If you have a small CD player that you are willing to bring indicate it

on the back of the Return Form. Write the approximate size and how many CD’s it holds. I have a CD player

but it is kind of big and my little car is going to be pretty full.

===========================================================================

The Picnic – Because of space limitations and other reason the Picnic is the only reunion activity that is open

to anyone other than class members and their S/O (significant other). * see note at bottom.

Please use the enclosed picnic invitation to pass on to non-class members.

The picnic invitation says that the event will be canceled in case of really bad weather.

However, class members and their S/O are welcome to come to the VFW and help get ready for the reunion –

or just talk. We can have an indoor picnic there or go out for lunch.

===========================================================================

Lodging – If you need a place to stay there are currently only two motels in Garnett that I know of.

(There are probably several in Ottawa or Iola.)

Sherwood Inn – 604 N. Maple Street (Hwy 59) 785-448-6816
Snuggle Inn235 N. Maple Street (Hwy 59) 785-448-5425

===========================================================================

Attire – For those who wanted to know what to wear, I suggest you wear whatever you enjoy wearing –

whether casual, dressy or clothes from the 50’s or 60’s. I plan to wear: Friday night – very casual or 50’s;

Saturday picnic – casual; Saturday night – dressy casual; Sunday and Monday – casual dressy

===========================================================================

Displays – It would be nice to have a display of old photos and memorabilia like we have had at past reunions.

Unfortunately, I don't have hardly anything.  If anyone who displayed something at past reunions is willing to

bring it please list it on the back of the return form.
 ===========================================================================

*(Note: if you are traveling with other family members and staying in a motel let me know and we will arrange

for the others to attend some of the reunion activities other than just the picnic.)
